Catherine Weaver Mies, a resident of Alexian Village, Signal Mountain, died on Saturday, June 30, 2001, after a long illness. She and her husband, Wheaton Warren Mies, would have
celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in August. Catherine was born on Oct. 6, 1919, to the late John Raymond Weaver and Catherine Agnes O'Brien and grew up with five siblings in Sturbridge, Mass. She graduated from Sturbridge
High School in 1935 and earned an associate of science degree in dental hygiene from Forsythe University in Boston. Catherine then served Northwest Airlines as a stewardess. During this time, she met her husband and lifelong
friend, Wheaton. She and Wheaton were married Aug. 27, 1945, in Southbridge, Mass. Catherine pursued her career as a dental hygienist while raising her family in Hamilton, Mass.
After retiring in 1980, she and her husband
traveled extensively before settling in Lenoir, N.C., where she pursued a second career as a real estate agent. Cathy, as she was known to friends, was a unique and caring woman who loved to travel and to meet new people. Catherine
was preceded in death by her two brothers, Harold and John; and one sister, Ida. Surviving siblings are her brother, Parker; and her sister, Beatrice. Also surviving are husband, Wheaton; two sons, Joseph and Jonathan; a daughter,
Mellinda; and six grandchildren. Catherine was a loving wife, devoted mother and a beloved friend, and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She touched many lives and will be sadly missed. A memorial service will be at
a later date at The Alexian Village Chapel, Signal Mountain, Tenn. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 850 Fortwood St., Chattanooga, TN 37403.
