Dorothy Attig  1923-2018


Dorothy Ann Mies Attig, 95, of Pontiac, died Saturday (Dec. 1, 2018) at 7:40 a.m. at Evenglow Inn Pontiac.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Pontiac with Rev. Tom Goodell officiating. Burial will follow in South Side Cemetery, Pontiac.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac. Memorials in Dorothy's name may be made to First United Methodist Church, Pontiac Public Library or Evenglow Inn.

Dorothy was born on Oct. 6, 1923 in Pontiac, a daughter of George and Kate (Braun) Mies. She married Raymond Attig on Sept. 2, 1944. He preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 2010.

Surviving are her four children, Thomas (Carol) Attig of Batavia, Sandra (John) Colvis of Pontiac, Carol (Ross) McConnell of Oregon, and Diane (Jay) Scott of Lisle; five grandchildren, Steve (Jennifer) Attig, Elizabeth (Eric) Ott, Jeffrey (Patti) Colvis, Nathan Colvis and Joel Birch; and seven great-grandchildren, Holden Attig, Miles Attig, Grayson Ott, Ellery Ott, Finley Ott, Hannah Colvis and Noah Colvis.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Eugene and Harold Mies; and three sisters, Georgianna O'Connor, Catherine Liste and Elizabeth Mies.

Dorothy was educated in Pontiac schools, graduating from Pontiac High School. She graduated from University of Illinois with a home economics degree. She was a wife, mother and grandmother first and foremost. She taught 22 years at Lincoln School in Pontiac. Dorothy was the longest standing member (83 Years) of First United Methodist Church-Pontiac. She was a member of the Pontiac Women's Club, Delta Kappa Gama, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, the Clionian Society and the 4-H House. Dorothy's family brought her the most enjoyment. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, golf, reading and bridge. Dorothy and Ray spent many winters in Naples, Fla.

The family would like to thank everyone at Evenglow Inn and Transitions Hospice for their wonderful care.
